Anti-smoking, the new Temperance Movement:
Derrick Jackson is now demonizing restaurant and bar owners who
oppose the proposed smoking ban in city eateries and bars, linking them to the evil Philip Morris. (I.e. He’s trying to shut down argument by making crude comparisons meant to shame.) Hub Blog still can’t this picture out of mind: Old Temperance Movement ladies and bible-thumping preachers in 1919, carrying signs about demon rum, banging their tambourines and singing, “Give me some of that old-time religion,” as they pushed for Prohibition. Hey, Derrick, we’re talking about smoking in bars. Taverns. Watering holes.
Speakeasies. You know, where BOOZE is sold? Hub Blog can live with smoking bans in restaurants. It already exists. But
bars?
