Local crack down on swindlers: The state is taking action against
Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. Good. Credit Suisse deserves to get cracked over the head. And let’s give a round of applause to all the state regulators who have been forced to do the job of the feds. The Globe’s summary: “While Massachusetts (has) probed Credit Suisse, the state of Utah has been looking into Goldman, Sachs & Co., Illinois and Connecticut are investigating UBS PaineWebber, and California has focused on Deutsche Bank. Washington is investigating Piper Jaffray Cos., and New Jersey is probing Bear Stearns Cos. New York is investigating Citigroup's Salomon Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co.”
