My own favorite example of Kerry’s calibration and qualifications: Last year, Kerry expended a lot of time and effort putting together a grandiose, highly thoughtful foreign policy speech and paper -- and then riddled it with enough calibrations and qualifications to render it moot. It was a classic case of ‘false hustle,’ as Red Auerbach might have phrased it.
