David Brooks as another conservative war backer with second thoughts, albeit somewhat condescending second thoughts, i.e. “They resent us for our power ...” etc. Nice line: “We went into Iraq with what, in retrospect, seems like a childish fantasy.” But, again, it’s written in a condescending way that places much emphasis on “irony.” Well, maybe it’s “irony” to a person who expected a different outcome. It’s not “irony” to those who repeatedly warned about the realistic outcome. ... FYI: Hub Blog was a wobbly supporter going into Iraq, kicking and screaming about the wrong time and wrong way etc. I’m still proudly wobbly. But we have work to do in Iraq, Afghanistan (where we should have concentrated a bit more) and the
‘new Afghanistan.’ Just hope there’s enough credibility left to finish the jobs. ...
