‘The two men balance each other’: Not bad. I liked the column. Until the end. ... I’d love an analysis of Bush’s moralistic mind when it comes to domestic issues. Does it explain the deficits he’s running up? Is log rolling a means for a moralistic end? ... FYI: I'm developing a really nasty theory about whether Bush is as moralistic as they say. Has to do with whether any of the stated excuses for the Iraq war were honest explanations. More later. I want to think about it a bit.
The battle for Samarra: I was beginning to think they wouldn’t take action like this in Iraq before the November election. Glad to be proven wrong. They probably had no choice, with the prospect of Samarra becoming yet another hornet's nest. Still, Samarra ain’t Falluja, the real showdown to come.
