I'm one who agrees it would be a
disaster to pull out of Iraq now. But I wouldn't have the guts to say it to
Eddie Contilli's face. A very powerful column -- and yet another sign time is running out. ... Though I agree with Charles Krauthammer about the need not to abandon Iraq, I find him intensely infuriating these days. Notice how the debate fault lines are simplified. Notice how he sets up Iraqis for blame. Does he realize there are people who reluctantly supported the war and reluctantly agree we should stick it out? The certainty of his tone -- and the blame he doesn't aim at the administration -- shows a once thoughtful thinker has turned into a partisan hack. ...
