'In the eye of history'
Searching the web for something to sum up last night's historic election, I had to go no farther than
Adam's site to find the reactions of
Rajon and
Curt. They both said it well. Rajon:
Thanks to everyone that got out and voted today. God Bless America. We did it.
Curt:
Am I disappointed? Sure, the man I know and the man I believed to be the right choice didn’t win. It stops there though. Because tomorrow the sun is going to come up in this country and less than 40 years after an African American was not allowed to use the same bathroom as a white person, sleep in the same hotel, ride on the same bus, go to the same school, less than 40 years later our nation showed the entire world why it is the greatest nation on earth and selected an African American as it’s 44th President.
My search brought up this
backpeddling gem from abroad: "So often crudely caricatured by others, the American people yesterday stood in the eye of history and made an emphatic choice for change for themselves and the world." Hmmm. Who could have been one of the biggest peddlers of that crude caricature? I can't imagine. ... The revolution was incomplete last night:
Question 1 failed. I would have been on Cloud Nine had it passed. ... Here's
one of the main reasons for Obama's victory last night. Hint: He's tied with Richard Nixon. I liked the
top-ten selections, though I would have switched around Truman and Eisenhower and perhaps bumped Polk for Andrew Jackson. ...
Agree 100 percent with this:
Electing McCain now would have, in some way, meant rewarding incompetence. It would have made a mockery of accountability in government and unleashed a wave of cynicism in America that would have been deeply corrosive.
P.S. -- The election was most definitely not close. But it was more of a romp than a blowout. ...
