The End of the War
Have you noticed something? ... It has to do with the president's announcement that U.S. troops are pulling out of Iraq by the end of the year. ... Do you notice it now? Give up? ... It's silence. For a war that started with such loud and passionate arguments for and against, the silence now is almost defeaning. The war's not even ending with a whimper. Maybe people don't believe it's over. Maybe most people believe it ended a while ago. Perhaps people are too exhausted or cynical. Maybe it's just me. But it's still kind of strange to think that such a momentous decision could be met with such seeming indifference. ...
